Not absorbent -- too thin
By ockeghem
In hopes that I might be able to use my gDiapers as cloth diapers at home, and use the flushables when we're out of the house, I bought the gCloth inserts. I've also purchased prefolds and "g-flappers" made by a work-at-home mother. I had hoped that the gCloth inserts might fit better and avoid breaking the seal formed by the nylon liner, since they're made by gDiapers to fit their own product.
Unlike Goldilocks, however, I have yet to find the "just right" cloth insert for my gDiapers. The gCloth inserts leak because they are too small to absorb enough liquid, while the prefolds and g-flappers leak because they are too thick and break the seal on the diaper. The gCloth liners do fit quite well in the diaper -- in fact, they're smaller than the flushable inserts. The hemp is supposed to become absorbent with washing; however, I washed the inserts the prescribed six times before using them, and have washed them many times since, but they do not fully absorb even one wetting. My daughter is two months old, and doesn't seem to be a heavy wetter. She can get through the night with no problem in the flushable liners; she can barely make it an hour in the gCloth liners. I've had to double them up before they'll work for her; fortunately the liners are so small that it's relatively easy to fit two in the diaper. Doubling them up is an expensive option, though, since I have to own twice as many liners.
My other complaint about the gCloth inserts is that they take forever to dry after you wash them. Everything else in the load will be dry, but I'll have to put the gCloth liners in for a second round in the dryer, and even then sometimes I have to put them on the line to dry after that. (This is why the WAHM business makes "flappers" with one end unsewn -- it allows all of the layers to dry more quickly.)
All in all, I'd say this new product still needs some work before it's perfected.

Best cloth option for us
By E. Wolff
I used just the flushies initially and now just added gCloths and we're loving them. I have other cloth diapers but I find these are the easiest. I have a 3 month old boy and he pees a lot and we have less leaks with either gDiaper insert option than we do with disposables. I use the flushies when I go out and when I know he's going to poo in the morning, and I use the gCloths at all other times (when I'm not using another cloth option). I find the cloths are quite absorbant. I was religious about the 6 pre-washes and when I wash my cloth diapers and gCloths I use a very mild environmentally sound detergent and I use about half the amount the directions say. I use no fabric softeners or pre-treaters. If there are stains I do a quick prewash in cold rubbing a little detergent onto the stains and using no spin cycle, and then run a full wash in hot with cold rinse. Everything has come out and they are staying quite absorbant. The only thing I wish is that the length were a hair longer. They are shorter than the flushies once they shrink. But I just make sure it is shifted as far to the front for my little boy and we are fine. The length was not enough of an issue to take away a star for me.

GDiaper system
By Jamie
Love the gdiaper system, and purchasing extra inserts is a definate need. I also recommend when using this system to purchase extra plastic snap in liners for those leaky newborn bowel movements.
